 A Fresh Approach
We believe that profitable, efficient and innovative small, medium sized businesses can lead the way to a new and dynamic local economy that protects and restores the environment.
Economic Gardening does this while producing abundant growth, employment and prosperity for the citizens of the community.

What is Economic Gardening

It is difficult to sustain improvements in economic activity when there is no consistency, as a result of hit and miss policies and people moving from place to place.

The activities of Economic Gardeners focus on providing support services to a range of people in businesses, groups, committees and councils. It is this breadth of support that provides steady sustainable growth.

The Resource Centre

In order to practice Economic Gardening well, you will require access to considerable up-to-date information, knowledge, tools and processes, training materials as well as psychological support.

The Resource Centre provides support for individuals, business groups through to economic development people.

Better Businesses

As an economy’s picture is disentangled into its components, the performance is highly variable across regions, industries and businesses.  There are many factors that contribute to that variable performance and research has been developing our understanding of those issues.

The capacity of the business owners and operators is an important factor in all situations.

Better Communities

Economic gardening has evolved as an economic development strategy over the past decade.  The idea arose in the 1980s from the confluence of two thoughts.

One was the possibility that many businesses and the people working in them would not find a new location attractive for a variety of reasons.  Second, most communities have unique skills and knowledge that can underpin marketable products and services if they are nurtured in the right way.

Better Organisations

Most community organisations have a role to play in building a better economy, better businesses and better communities.

Their role is to apply good management principles, seeking opportunities and being innovative. They need to build a culture of Analysis and Action rather than Opinion and Talkfests, if they are to move their community forward in today’s competitive world.
